Day of the Dead Jigsaw Poem Activity

Once school gets started it seems to take over my life! I'm sure everyone feels the same way. I wanted to stop in to share one of my favorite "Day of the Dead" activities I use in class. I tend to use this with my Advanced more than my Intro classes, but it could work for any. You could even change it up to have students create poems in Spanish. (clearly, my photo editing skills are not the best! :p ) Check it out HERE at my TPT store! I am hoping to work on some of my CIE resources I've created to share also. Happy Fall! Saludos, Erin

Cuaderno Interactivo Estudiantil (Interactive Student Notebook -ISN)

Well I can't pretend that the last couple of weeks haven't been INSANELY busy. This weekend is much needed. This year I've decided to teach my jr. high kiddos with an Interactive Student Notebook, or as we say in Spanish: Cuaderno Interactivo Estudiantil. If you're interested in setting up one up, here's a great site that I used: http://everybodyisageniusblog.blogspot.com/p/interactive-notebooks.html   It is a LOT of work putting together the notebooks, and we've had our classes reduced by 20 minutes this year. However, what I love the most about this, is that it's challenging me as a teacher to come up with new, unique ideas. I find that I'M enjoying this as well. My advanced students are more vocal about this than my intro, but they seem to love it. Here's some pics of my notebook (I use this to teach the students): Front cover This is the syllabus page. This is a page that I created for Subject Pronouns.  Also, I

Classroom setup día 1

I FINALLY made it into my room to really get into setup. I went in last week to bring some stuff, but I spent a good 3 hours there today. So I thought I'd share some of my new creations. One of my bulletin boards. This is just a beginning of the year one. I include famous Spanish-speaking celebrities, with some quotes around their faces. Then I include some common careers where Spanish can be helpful! I decided to make a 1 MINUTE UNTIL DISMISSAL  sign(s) that I found on Pinterest here .  No where near as together, but I like the setup for now. Then I decided I needed a   "Voice-O-Meter" (Contador de la voz) .  This is a change-up from my stop-light format I used last year. I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to leave it one the ribbon. Finally, I really liked all the elementary ed curtains I saw on Pinterest, but thought this might be a good idea to top my blinds: PAPEL PICADO! :) I just liked the way that my back white board looked, so

Syllabi 2.0

After much inspiration from The Creative Language Class I decided to take the Syllabi challenge and update my syllabi to look MUCH more visually appealing.  Hopefully it'll look ok in grayscale, and gets approved by my principal, but overall I think it looks great for the kids! Here's my old Syllabus : Syllabus Intro 2012 13 Old 1 by SrtaLu Here's my New one (not all of my fonts are going to come up correctly): Syllabus Intro 13 14 Infographic Webuse by SrtaLu Now, I got many of my ideas from a great blog, (La Clase de Srta. Dentlinger ), so I do NOT take credit for her layouts, and what not. I also used free downloaded fonts, and clip art from google, so I do NOT own these. I'm creating lots of new ideas for this school year, and I hope to sharing some soon! Happy planning / organizing fellow teacher friends!

Cooking Shows for FOOD unit

It's been so long since I've written on here. I'm so sorry! I got swamped with grad school, and the year. One of my goals this year is to blog more. I've come across so many great blogs recently, it's inspired me as a teacher, and person. I think it's the best way for us language teachers to share information, and to get new ideas. So here we go... I just wanted to touch on a very short idea that I had  in my food unit. I LOVE Frontera restaurant in Chicago .  For my 26th birthday my family and I went there. If you go early enough, they’ll seat you that night. Anyways,  I’m a follower of Rick Bayless, and his t.v. show “Mexico: One Plate at a Time”.  So in my students food unit, I showed one of his episodes. (You can order a season here ).  I’ve been trying to get away from Hollywood videos in class even though I really only used to show Selena during oral exams after our culture unit on Texas, but I’m trying to challenge myself. My students absolutely LOVED
